ROBO MD Achievements and future

15 November 2011

The project has finished and the following results were achieved during the last 18 months.

Building a prototype with the following functions:

  • real time fall detection
  • real time QRS beat detection
  • robot interacts with the user by asking yes and no questions
  • robot was mounted on an wheeled platform to increase speed
  • robot can be remotely tele-operated by a care-provider to drive and control the robot and to remotely see and communicate with the patient

Measured data are stored on a personal computer and can be used for further investigations (e.g. by a medical doctor).

Design of a daily questioning, designed to investigate the general health state of the patient.

Communication between robot and patient was established.

Future Perspectives

ROBO MD was one of the first European international projects in the field of home care robots for monitoring and detection critical situations. Despite the fact that there are many difficulties to cope with (for instance stairs in the house, noise of the measurements, user acceptance) using a robot for home care monitoring systems has the potential for future technologies. Reasonably future vital sign sensors will get smaller, more comfortable to wear and the measured data will become more reliable.
